Steve Malack Stamps Centering Definitions
STAMP CENTERING DEFINITIONS
- VF - Very Fine stamps are evenly centered, with the
design well clear of all edges. Imperforate stamps have four margins.
- Fine - Fine stamps have the design off-center but will still be clear of the edges
or just barely touching the edges.
- Ave - Average stamps have the edges cutting the stamp design on one or more sides.
- "In betweens" (i.e. F/VF, A/F) - These are stamps that don't quite fit the three
definitions above! They are better than the lower grading but not quite as good as the
higher grading. For example a F/VF stamp will not be centered evenly but it will not be
touching the edge either. It's "half way there" or a "wannabe" VF!
